5 Tips for Writing to Women

Tip #3 - Bring Out the Emotion

Women are filled with emotion. Think about the 120 count box of crayons. Women exude many colors and often create their own. Women are drawn into stories that have emotion.

Let’s look at the next part of our scripture.

The other woman said, “No! The living one is my son; the dead one is yours.”

But the first one insisted, “No! The dead one is yours; the living one is mine.” And so they argued before the king.” (1 Kings 3:16-22 NIV)

What emotions do we find in this section? Anger, betrayal, grief, loss, hurt, wounding, and perhaps confusion. There are other emotions that come to mind as we read. We can feel the tension and strain between the two women. Our hearts ache with theirs. As a female reader, I am immediately drawn into their drama. I want to help, fix, encourage, wrap my arms around the women, reassure, and assist.

Emotion – one thing female readers relate to, embrace, and understand.
