Out of the many women I've prayed with, I understand one thing – somewhere hidden in the crevices of their hearts, they do have a desire to get better. However, there are a few things that keep us in the wounded trenches. There are lies we secretly confess to ourselves. Below are just a few that keep us from taking steps toward healing:

  1. I'm okay. I don't need help. I'm not wounded. (denial)

  2. The secret needs to stay a secret. (shame)

  3. It would hurt others if they found out (Taking responsibility for others)

  4. I can't be helped. (hopelessness)

  5. No one can know about my wound. (pride)

  6. I'll start working on it tomorrow. (procrastination)

  7. It’s not my issue. (blame)

  8. I can handle this by myself. (stubborn will)

  9. God doesn't care about me. (Feeling abandoned)

God Busting Truths

The enemy has us believe we are not worth the trouble, we're a burden to those around us, and God doesn't care. In fact, Satan throws our mistakes, sins, circumstances, and even our wounds back in our face and shouts, "Look! Look at you now! You deserve it! No one cares about you!"

1 John 4:4 says, "Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world."

Let's say again - Greater is HE (God) who is in you than he (Satan) who is in the world. That is a door busting truth I want to hold on to and remind myself every time Satan pushes me to the ground. The battle has already been won. I can pull myself up and tell Satan to GET OUT OF HERE! And GET OUT OF MY HEAD!

Sometimes we forget what God did for us. He loved us so much He sent his only son to endure beatings, spilled blood, and even death.  Jesus became the lamb slaughtered on the cross for our sins. The cross fell between you and God -bridging any broken gap. Christ paved a clear path for you to find your way to God. God does cares.

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3 NIV)

In this passage "binding" is referred to wrapping something tight like a turban. Think of a broken leg. The doctor binds the leg in a cast for healing. God takes hold of our wounds and binds them. We just need to release them to Him.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)

In the midst of our suffering, we sometimes feel abandoned and hopeless. Though we don't understand why we face wounds in a fallen world, we can come to understand that God's desire is not to harm us, but to help us find hope and healing; to help us prosper in a glorious future. With God's help, you can find your way out of the wounded trenches and into His glorious light.
